After a series of backbreaking publicity rollouts, the Camp Babes were primed for the final showdown. Held at Club Momo, which usually draws the Chinablack crowd, the finalists paraded their goods to a motley crew of supportive friends and boyfriends, family members and of course, the hormonally-charged NS-men who were there to egg the girls on.

Alas, wolf whistles were few and far between - these were mostly reserved for hot favourites Cherlyn and Zhenru, although credit must be given to all the girls for upping the va-va-voom factors and raising the chilly temperatures in the cavernous insides of Club Momo.

As the winner was promised a one-year DJ-ing contract with Dongli 88.3fm, naturally the organizers made sure to suss out the wittiest among the finalists via a question and answer segment. Oddly enough the girls had known of the questions beforehand (this piece of information came to light when one of the finalists gave the proverbial slip of the tongue), although they had no idea which question they would end up choosing.

That said, some of the finalists did manage to come up with pretty interesting answers: for example, Mya chose a mirror, of all things, to have in her possession if she were to be marooned on a desert island, to ensure she'd leave behind a presentable-looking corpse for someone to find should she die from thirst, hunger and/or loneliness.

Sabrina decided to role-play her question, which involved her most likely reaction if she was having a spat with someone she hated when her crush walked past.

Interestingly enough, Zhenru picked "Cat" as her choice of English name, should she ever be hard-pressed for one, because of her long-lived affinity with felines. Besides, "Kitty just sounds porn!" she exclaimed at one point.

The highlight of the event had to be the talent segment, where finalists were given a chance to showcase their versatility to an increasingly ecstatic crowd. Consisting of a good mix of song and dance, the segment saw two finalists choosing to serenade us with the former and the other three opting for the latter. Cherlyn and Sabrina stuck to sweet ballads, convincing us of their girl-next-door appeal, while Peili, Mya and Zhenru selected sultry numbers by the Pussycat Dolls, Beyonce Knowles and Christina Millan to shake their booties to. While vocal talent is always impressive, it was the latter feature with the girls' gravity-defying hemlines and slick, sassy steps that drove the crowd wild that night.

No doubt, with the talent we saw from all of the finalists this night, it was a tough call for the judges to decide whom to crown. After a rather lengthy deliberation (during which the emcees played mindless drinking games and QAs with the floor, and former Camp Babe 2004 (Tay Kewei) wooed the crowd with a stirring Stefanie Sun rendition) the judges came back with their final decision.

Crowd favorite Zhenru didn't disappoint - She, along with Cherlyn and Mya, were crowned the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. Cherlyn was also named Miss Personality for her girlish good looks and charm.

We stormed backstage to congratulate the girls for their hardwork - if you haven't read our pre-finals interview, this is the time to rifle through our archives for a quick refresher - they've trained mightily hard with Shine Models for the catwalk segments, which blew our pointy heads away (Peili in particular, displayed a natural affinity for the model strut) when they made their first appearance onstage.

Simply put, Camp Babes 2005 was a most dashing success - and the Funkygrad crew is certain to turn up next year to capture the next slew of fresh faces on print and film.
