Never want to see you sweat. The notion will hold true for Nike Sphere React, a new series of apparel made of new materials using proprietary, patent-pending technology that reacts to changes in the wearer's environment.

Nike Sphere React.

Since the launch of Nike Sphere in 2002, Nike has attempted to set new standards in technical apparel. Developed by Nike's Global Advanced Innovation Team, Nike Sphere apparel is designed to create a personal atmosphere for the wearer. The concept combines highly technical materials with advanced garment architecture. Materials use a three-dimensional structure to create air spaces and help athletes stay more comfortable on the field, on the track and in the gym. This year, Nike Sphere technology takes a step forward with the introduction of Nike Sphere React -- a collection of new materials using proprietary technology that responds to the body's changing dynamics.

The change occurs simply and rapidly. An athlete starts moving. The body starts working. The athlete sweats. Nike Sphere React starts working.

The fabrics undergo dynamic structural changes to help keep the athlete cool, warm and protected. Intuitively, these patented materials change with the athlete, adapt to the environment and work to maintain a comfortable personal atmosphere.

The Nike Sphere React consists of three concepts:

  • Nike Sphere React Dry,
  • Nike Sphere React Cool and
  • Nike Sphere React Pro.

Each is built around proprietary materials engineered for a specific purpose. Nike Sphere React Dry reduces cling to help keep the athlete dry. Nike Sphere React Cool promotes increased airflow to help keep the athlete cool. Nike Sphere React Pro releases moisture vapor while repelling water, to help protect the athlete from the outside environment.

Each technology incorporates biomimicry, drawing on principles in nature to help the body keep cool, warm and protected through the stages of a workout.

Nike Sphere React Dry

When the athlete is dry, Nike Sphere React Dry lays comfortably against the body. As the athlete heats up and sweats, Nike Sphere React Dry is activated, visibly changing as it reacts to moisture. Upon contact with sweat, the material transforms from a flat fabric to a three-dimensional structure that reduces cling to the body. The innovative materials change like a chameleon adapting to its surroundings increasing to nearly two times its original thickness in an engineered pattern. Airflow across the skin increases to aid in evaporative cooling. When the sweat has evaporated, post exercise, the lightweight microfiber fabric returns to a flat shape against the body. Designed as a base layer, Nike Sphere React Dry materials are strategically zoned in areas such as the shoulders, upper arms and back to react to sweat, help reduce cling and promote comfort and performance.

Nike Sphere React Cool

The fabric of Nike Sphere React Cool breathes with the athlete. When the athlete sweats, Nike Sphere React Cool materials opens up instinctively, becoming more breathable to permit increased airflow across the skin. The fabric reacts to the body's moisture, becoming as much as twice as breathable, in the gym or on the field. This openness creates a cooler personal atmosphere between the body and the fabric and gives the athlete freedom to perform more comfortably. The materials are designed to mimic nature and react to the body, like a flower in tune with the sun. Nike Sphere React Cool material is engineered for zones of the body using Nike's patent pending Zoned Venting Technology, where Nike research has shown a significant physiological benefit.

Nike Sphere React Pro

Nike Sphere React Pro protects the athlete from outside weather while reacting to the athlete's need for a more breathable garment. Nike Sphere React Pro fabrics offer lightweight protection from the outside elements while changing to meet athlete's needs. As the athlete begins to sweat, the material becomes more breathable and dimensional to improve comfort and help reduce cling, allowing the wearer to focus on performing at their best. The concept mimics nature's best design, like a bird ruffling its feathers to regulate its temperature. Nike Sphere React Pro materials react with sweat and open up to create a material that is nearly twice as breathable. Athletes will be more comfortable when they sweat.
