We checked out NUS Bizad Jam & Hop at The Arena for an exciting night
of people watching. The gorgeous freshmen and eager dancers impressed
so much we decided to become young, innocent and excited freshmen all
over again to party the night away.
Do not close your browser and stay glued to your LCD screen as we piece
snippets of the night together.

The Catwalk
Backed by ALLURA playing their amped-up remix of Seven Nation Army vs
Take Me Out, the contestants strutted their stuff onstage in Puma jump
suits, jackets and singlets amidst deafening screams of support from the
adoring audience.

The Performance
The audience was treated to stunning performances by two groups: ALLURA
(the band) and Punk Out Krew (dance). ALLURA, featured at this year's
Singfest, drove the crowd wild with Limb, as they rocked the stage in
a brilliant mesh of strong vocals and heart stomping rock music. Dancers
from Punk Out Krew mesmerized the floor with a slick number featuring
a medley of popular dance tracks such as Feedback, Kiss, 24 Inches and
Touch it. The electrifying performance left the audience craving for more.

"Puma Style Awards"
While much attention was reserved for the pageant contestants, the audience
had their fair share of limelight. To the 3 hapless people had to dress
themselves up with strange apparel in the most creative (read wackiest)
way possible, those nice little Puma hampers are not too bad a reward
for having to stand on stage looking like confused partygoers who have
just booked out of army camp, suffering from a wardrobe malfunction moment.
The audience clearly preferred chic campus babes in mini-skirts.

The Contest
Forget the atypical Q&A segment - this year's pageant featured a
two-part impromptu dance challenge, intentionally put together to showcase
the "wild and hot" contestants.
In the first round, the pageant hopefuls had to groove to a dance track,
blindfolded. Leonard Boey (M11) received much catcalls with his 'Moonwalk'
and a short "robot-dance". He claimed that to have learnt the
unusual moves from "online videos".

The part-good and part-popular dancers were retained for the next segment.
Reminiscence of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" - an American show,
the remaining participants were made to choose from a bizarre selection
of items in the Pandora's Box - and dance with it. This was the ultimate
test of their stage presence, spontaneity and creativity.
Evelyn Chong's (F9) was probably feeling quite naughty when she decided
that length was the chief reason when she chose a long stick as her dance
partner . Sympathies went to Wong Leang Wen (M3) who had his options limited
to a rather ghastly wig and two glittering garlands straight out of RuPaul's
wardrobe.
